About Michael McKinnon

G’Day from Melbourne, Australia. My name is Michael, and some people know me on Twitter as @bigmac, and also Mastodon as @bigmac@infosec.exchange.

I’m a senior business leader and media spokesperson in the IT and cybersecurity industry and frequently provide commentary on innovation, technology, cybersecurity, and other interesting topics; here are some of those articles, and TV interviews.

In my own time, my passion is security research, writing code, cloud computing, and contributing articles to various publications. I’m also deeply interested in cryptocurrency and blockchain projects, and I continue to run several peer-to-peer nodes to support some cryptocurrencies that I like.

As a volunteer, I dedicate a significant amount of time supporting the Australian Information Security Association (AISA) as Chair of the Victorian Branch where I have a committee of branch executives who help organise monthly grass-roots events that inspire our members in Melbourne – the world’s best city of hackers.

Lastly, since 2018 I’ve been privileged to be one of a handful of authorised instructors in Australia for (ISC)2 which is the largest global cybersecurity professional organisation. I teach and mentor people for these highly sought after cyber industry qualifications:

So, how can I help?

Connect with me on LinkedIn and don’t be shy – say hello – especially if you’re looking to get into cybersecurity.

Until next time, stay safe out there.

Yours sincerely,

Michael McKinnon
